The Princess of Wales's Yearly Christmas Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.
The large audience will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Music and Opportunity
Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.
Generations Gathering
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
