19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
