The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The prosecutor added: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepson notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She explained the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five children.
